  • WD-40.It genuinely loosens tar, which is why it’s a popular fallback, but it’s a petroleum lubricant, not a paint-care product. It leaves an oily film you have to wash off, and it strips your wax. It can work in a pinch, but you still have to decontaminate and re-protect afterward, so you haven’t really saved a step.
