How to Use a Pressure Washer to Wash a Car Safely

What NOT to do with a pressure washer
Most pressure-washer paint damage comes from a short list of avoidable mistakes. Keep these firmly in mind:
- Never use a turbo or zero-degree nozzle on paint.A rotating turbo tip and the red pencil jet concentrate the machine’s full force into a tiny point. They can chip paint, etch trim and blow through seals. They exist for stripping concrete and grime off hard surfaces, not for cars.
- Do not blast trim, seals and emblems up close. A close, hard stream can peel trim adhesive, lift the edges of decals and emblems, and force water past weather seals into the cabin, doors or electrical connectors. Widen your distance and angle around these areas.
- Do not drive the jet straight into panel gaps. Angle the spray across shut lines and gaps rather than into them, so you are not pushing water where it should not go.
- Do not get too close chasing a stubborn spot.If foam and a normal rinse will not shift something, deal with it during the contact wash — do not close the gap and let the pressure do damage.
