Step-by-step: using a foam cannon

  1. Rinse the car first. Give the whole car a thorough pre-rinse from top to bottom to knock off loose dust, sand and debris before any foam touches the paint. Rinsing first means the foam works on what is left rather than fighting a dry, dusty surface, and it washes away the biggest, most scratch-prone particles right away.
  2. Mix the right soap and ratio in the cannon. Fill the cannon bottle with a high-foaming, pH-neutral car wash soapand water. Add a modest amount of soap rather than flooding the bottle, then top up with water and swirl gently to mix — you are not trying to build a head of froth in the bottle itself.
